Hi Reader,

One of the super-powers of performance marketers is competitor research.

They always know exactly what, where, how, and why the competitors ads are working.

Whether you’re running Meta, Google, or YouTube ads, you must learn how to break down your rivals’ campaigns and reverse-engineer their success.

Raj Vasani just shared a full tutorial on YouTube showing exactly how to do this.

There are two major lenses for the analysis:

Quantitative (measurable):

  • Metrics from ads, keywords, CPCs, traffic sources, CTRs
  • Use tools like SEMrush, SpyFu, SimilarWeb

Qualitative (strategic & creative):

  • Copy, visuals, CTAs, funnels, offers
  • Use tools like Meta Ad Library, Triatria, ChatGPT

Here's what these tools are good for:

Quantitative Tools:

  • SEMrush for Paid keywords, traffic volumes, competitors
  • SpyFu for PPC budgets, Google Ads history
  • SimilarWeb for Traffic mix, geo data, audience interests

Qualitative Tools:

  • Meta Ad Library / Google Ads Transparency Center for Creative types, messaging, influencers
  • Triatria for AI-powered creative breakdown: hooks, formats, personas
  • ChatGPT to synthesize all findings into a report

You don’t need expensive tools to get great insights; use a blend of free trials, ad libraries, and ChatGPT.

Competitor analysis should be done every 3–6 months.

The magic lies in connecting the dots: tools → insights → creative action.
